A new discovery by molecule biologists in Belgium have discovered that sugar actually stimulates tumour growth. The article by Business Insider which highlights the results of this study (link below) focuses predominately on cancerous cells and tumours, however I still find this to be relevant given lipomas are benign tumours.

The biologists have discovered that the tumour cells act differently to normal cells when it comes energy, normal cells use oxygen to breakdown glucose to create energy, but cancerous/tumour cells gets energy from fermenting sugar which in turn stimulates tumour growth. The sugar awakens existing cancer cells making them multiply and expand rapidly, according to the scientists.

I think this article supports the fact that diet is closely connected to lipoma growth and could be the key to helping us find a way to avoid further growths or maybe even reduce the size of our current tumours.
